Geographically, West Nusa Tenggara Province is located between 1150 46 '- 1190 5' east longitude and 8010 '- 905' south latitude, with an area boundary to the north of the Java Sea and Flores Sea, south of the Indian Ocean, west of the Lombok Strait and the Province Bali and to the east of South Sape and East Nusa Tenggara Province.

West Nusa Tenggara Province is one of the provinces located in the Nusa Tenggara archipelago. There are two major islands, namely Lombok Island with an area of ​​4,738.70 Km2 (23.51%) and Sumbawa Island with an area of ​​15,414.5 Km2. Apart from the two main islands, there are around 378 small islands that surround it. Of the 380 islands, only 38 are inhabited, while the remaining 342 are uninhabited. The small islands are usually called gili, where the dyke is usually a tourist attraction area, such as: Moyo Island, Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno, Gili Air, Gili Gede, Gili Lontar, Bungin Island, and several other island clusters.

Based on the composition of the area per district / city, that the area of ​​Sumbawa Island is 25,385.46 km2, with a land area of ​​15,414.50 km2 and sea waters of 9,970.96 km2, which is 3.33 times the area of ​​Lombok Island which covers 7,619.83 km2. . The district with the largest area is Sumbawa Regency with an area of ​​11,556.44 km2 (32.97% of the area of ​​NTB), and the narrowest is Mataram City with an area of ​​118.10 km2 (0.30% of the area of ​​NTB). Administratively, the NTB Provincial Government in 2009 consists of eight districts and two cities. West Nusa Tenggara Province was formed based on Law Number 64 of 1958 which took effect December 17, 1958, the WNT area was designated as an autonomous region with the capital in Mataram. Then with the aim of simplifying and accelerating services to the community and accommodating the aspirations of the community based on the criteria of economic capacity, regional potential, socio-cultural and socio-political conditions, area size, population, and various other considerations that have been stipulated under the Law of the Republic of Indonesia From 1993 to 2008 there was a division of the NTB Province administration area from 7 districts to 8 districts and 2 cities.

Administratively, the NTB Provincial Government in 2009 consists of eight districts and two cities. On the island of Lombok there are Regencies of West Lombok, North Lombok, Central Lombok, East Lombok and Mataram City. Meanwhile, on the island of Sumbawa, there are the districts of Sumbawa, Dompu, Bima, West Sumbawa and Kota Bima. Overall, according to data from the Central Bureau of Statistics, NTB Province in 2019, NTB Province has 117 Districts, 1143 Villages / Kelurahan.

Based on population projection data for 2010 - 2020, the population of West Nusa Tenggara in 2018 reached 5,013,687 people. With details, as many as 2,433,731 men and 2,579,956 women, with a sex ratio of 94.33.

The largest population is in East Lombok Regency and the smallest is in West Sumbawa Regency. The number of households in NTB Province is 1,422,319 households with an average household member of 4.12 people. When viewed by age group. The composition of the population of NTB Province is in the form of a pyramid with the largest population composition at the age of 5 - 9 years, namely 501,281 people and the smallest is in the age group 60 - 64 years.

 

 

 

Labor

The total population of West Nusa Tenggara Province aged 15 years and over reaches 3,394,438 people. The working population reached 2,154,124 people. School 234,977 people. Taking care of households 742,147 people and the rest are looking for work and income earners. With an unemployment rate of 7.72 percent according to the Sakernas results. Based on data sourced from the West Nusa Tenggara Provincial Manpower Office in 2018 the number of job seekers registered in West Nusa Tenggara Province was 39,285 people, consisting of 29,790 men and 9,495 women. Of this number, dominated by elementary school graduates, reaching 55.47 percent (or 21,790 people).

The number of formal industrial companies that grew in 2018 was 294 companies with a workforce of 1,448 people, where the largest number of formal industries was in Mataram City, 78 companies absorbed 266 workers and the lowest was in Dompu Regency.
